A 2023 tribute to Bourbon vanilla — an ingredient first brought to France under Louis XV — Althaïr opens with a bright, spiced citrus accord of orange blossom, bergamot, cinnamon and cardamom before an overdose of Madagascan Bourbon vanilla and elemi takes hold in the heart. The base leans gourmand rather than purely sweet: praline and candied almond add a dessert-like richness, while guaiac wood, tonka bean and a clean ambroxan-musk accord keep it from tipping into simple bakery territory. Frequently compared to Tom Ford's Tobacco Vanille for its warmth but with a lighter, more citrus-forward opening, Althaïr wears as genuinely unisex despite its "for men" marketing.
